INTRO TO GLASS SAND CASTING + MIG WELDING A SMALL SCULPTURE

One of our favorite project based workshops where you will get to make a small sculpture to take home.

This workshop takes place in the studios of sculptors Mitchell Gaudet + Erica Larkin Gaudet and they will quickly introduce you to the FUN of glass casting, welding and sculpture making.

*Basic Glass Hot Shop lesson, Glass casting process, MIG welding instruction using pre-cut steel materials. Small hand tool lessons.

Class Details: Classes are on Saturdays, from 10-3 pm.

Cost is $150 for 5-hour course (instruction fee, shop and materials fees are all included).  Eight students max.

No experience or prerequisites required.

The workshop is open to the public and for those who are interested in learning the basics of studio welding equipment & tools, interest in the process of glass casting and sculpture. Classes are project-based workshops demonstrating welding skills that will help you feel comfortable using machines to create your own artistic ideas

Glass-

Sculptor Mitchell Gaudet will introduce you to his process of sand casting glass in his hot shop. In this overview you will learn studio and personal safety.

Welding-

Sculptor Erica Larkin Gaudet will cover the basics of welding using MIG welders, showing you how to effectively learn how the welding equipment works. She will be emphasizing skills and techniques that will make welding more accessible to those without extensive workshops, toolsets, or experience.

Requirements:

*Interest in having a fun time learning the basic skills of welding, hand tools & metalworking machines, cast hot glass in sand molds.

*You should not be uneasy around power tools and sparks.

* Wear long sleeves and long pants made of 100% cotton and leather boots.  Don’t forget to bring your reading glasses and a bandana/ hair tie for your hair. tie for your hair.
